”My challenge is: how will you take part in World Kid Lit Month this year?

Have you ever taken part in World Kid Lit Month?
September is the tenth anniversary of World Kid Lit – and World Kid Lit Month!
”World Kid Lit is a non-profit that aims to bring diverse, inclusive, global literature into the hands and onto the bookshelves of young people.
We believe in the power of reading to foster anti-racism, inclusivity and empathy. We believe in the power of world kid lit (world literature for young people) to broaden horizons and promote greater understanding between cultures.
Although the team behind World Kid Lit are mainly UK based, they welcome contributions from around the world.
They also provide resources so you can take part. These images are just the start!
There are booklists – organised by age; by genre; by country. There are interviews and feature articles. Meet the publisher. It’s a brilliant resource!

My involvement with World Kid Lit Month:
I came across them in 2020, and decided to share a children’s book, or children’s book creator, from Aotearoa New Zealand every day! (Well, once I resurrected my old blog. I’ve since transferred all the entries into my children’s book specific blog.)
In 2021, I had to figure out how to take part while in lockdown – and without access to physical books. Thank goodness for library catalogues! I decided to challenge myself and find books from or about EVERY country I could! For some countries, there was very little available in English – or Own Voices. For many countries, the only English-language material I could find was about… war.
In 2022, I used the World Kid Lit team’s bingo card.
Same in 2023.
In 2024, I did some thematic entries, including food, dance, colonisation.
Last year, I was back to the Bingo cards!
And, this year – more bingo cards! But, the challenge is finding books I haven’t already recommended.
